Scent of Lilacs

Many people add music to their blogs. During lilac season I wish I could add scent.
There are few scents that compare to the old fashioned lilacs. I love the new hybrids, the blooms are big and voluptuous but to me the scents are not quite as beautiful.
I can't imagine a New England spring without lilacs, they only bloom for a week or two but what a glorious time.
And I love the big old bushes with their gnarled and twisted branches all year, especially in winter.
They need little care, an occasional sprinkle of lime and a little light pruning and they will grow for generations.
Entoxicating, heady, I love to get drunk on the smell of lilacs.

Lilac reminds me about my grandma. She had a huge Lilac tree. It was white and was growing by the fence and leaning over it. People used to sneak and break branches because they wanted to have flowers. I wish they would just ask so my grandma would cut flowers for them.

Beautiful! I had some lilacs growing in my front yard when I was a child. Of course for years it didn't flower...but when it finally did it was stunning, just like your lovely photos!!

My lilacs are almost ready to bloom :) We have them all around the house - don't even have to bring them in, just open windows :)
Beautiful photos!

Lilacs are my favorite! You're right, the old fashioned ones have the best scent. They don't last long enough for me! Mine are gone already!
Your works always look like paintings to me.

Beautiful! I wish you could add the scent, too! Bath and Body Works has a lilac candle that actually smells pretty close to lilacs. It's the only one I've ever smelled that impressed me!

We had a huge lilac bush in our backyard when we were little...the scent always reminds me of my youth, running around & playing in the backyard.
